The 2023 Tree of Hope
Rooted In Our Community
Because of YOUR support –
Please join us in inspiring hope and resilience in children, youth, and families throughout the year in the Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox and Addington area and consider giving to the Tree of Hope! As our community grows and becomes more diverse, the needs of the community and its members do also. Your donations assist to provide opportunities for children, youth, and families in KFL&A to celebrate and observe dates of significance that are important to them, as well as opportunities to promote learning and engagement that honour their widely varied identities and cultural heritages. We thank you for your consistent support and for partnering with us in our commitment to providing services and supports that align with each child’s, youth’s, and family’s unique identities and needs.
Together we can change today, tomorrow and the future.
How It Works?
1. Gift Card
Gift cards are purchased for families by Agency staff with donations made by you. The gift cards can be acquired for a variety of different and individualized means in alignment with a family’s needs, such as they relate to their customs and celebrations; funding to support an activity in relation to identity; or items needed as part of a traditional meal or celebration. This offers parents and caregivers the ability to shop for their children and choose gifts which are meaningful to them as individuals and to their family as a whole. The feedback in previous years to this giving approach has been outstanding; families enjoy the flexibility and ease of utilizing generous donations in this way.
2. Must Have Items
We often receive requests to support young people and families in the community to acquire a variety of items that relate to their needs, well-being, and/or family culture/traditions, such as gender-affirming items or activities, ceremonial/cultural bundles, traditional foods, seasonal clothing, baby supplies, cribs/beds, bedding. Children wanting to participate in athletic, educational, or arts-based activities are also in need of equipment and supplies. Your donations help us to purchase the items families need.
3. Education
Your donations help contribute to two incredibly helpful
academic supports for young people connected to
FACSFLA. The first is our START tutoring program, which helps children with complex needs thrive in school with the assistance of one-on-one tutors. The second is the Futures Fund bursaries, which support youth in and from care to pursue their goals for the future in the workplace (including accessing training and resources) and enrolling in college or university programs. The Futures Fund includes both the Kewaywin Circle Award for Indigenous youth and the Robert Sutherland Award for Black youth.
4. Year-Round Camp Programs
Many children and youth enjoy the opportunity to participate in camps throughout the year! Camps provide young people opportunities to develop leadership and social skills, build confidence, and enjoy the outdoors while making connections with each other and mentors. Camp opportunities vary widely to meet the individual interests and identities of children. Over the years, this has included camps with many diverse outdoor activities and themes, such as canoeing, swimming, hockey, horseback riding, gymnastics, Camp Lifting Leaves, Cultural Retreats, dance, visual arts, soccer, and science. Your donations help make these enrichment opportunities a reality for children and youth in our communities.

The gift cards from the Tree of Hope made such a huge difference to me and my kids. I was able to buy them toys and pajamas for Christmas morning. I can’t thank you all enough for helping us have a good holiday together.
The bursary that I received for my college program really helped me get started on continuing my education. Because of this financial assistance, I am now set on the path to be able to provide stability for myself, fiancé, and my children. My future seems bright thanks to this bursary I was honoured to receive.
Tax receipts will be issued for all donations over $20.00. Online charitable receipts will be issued by email immediately after the donation. All other donations will receive a receipt no later than February 2023.
